Sydney Burton is a graduate student at the University of Florida, earning a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Flute Performance. At UF, she serves as the Graduate Teaching Assistant, studying with Dr. Kristen Stoner. Sydney earned an MM in Flute performance at Oklahoma State University (2022) and a BM degree in Flute Performance from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (2020). Along with her musical endeavors, Sydney received a BS degree in Middle Level Math Education from Slippery Rock University. Her past teachers include Dr. Erin Murphy, Dr. Cassandra Eisenreich, and Darlene Black.
Professionally, Sydney is a member of the National Flute Association, the Florida Flute Association, the Pittsburgh Flute Club, and the Oklahoma Flute Society. Sydney is a certified KinderFlute teacher and is currently pursuing training in the Suzuki Method.
Sydney has performed in masterclasses for Alexa Still, Alberto Almarza, Marianne Gedigian, Nina Assimakopoulos, Jonathan Keeble, among others. She has also attended numerous summer programs studying with pedagogues such as Alexa Still, Jonathan Keeble, Brook Ferguson, and Linda Toote.
Sydney has both presented and performed at the national level, presenting her research on hypermobility in the hands and fingers in 2019 and 2020. She has played in weddings and other social events and is available for hire via email. She currently is on the faculty at the Academy of Music in Gainesville where she teaches flute and beginning piano. Sydney also teaches privately and maintains her own flute studio in both the Erie, PA and Gainesville, FL area.
